On 6 March 1958, a Chilean-Japanese expedition led by Emmanji, M. Takagi and Claussen reached the summit of Cerro Arenales (3,365 m) for the first time. Two days later, the second ascent was made by G. Mill and Morita Pideri. In the summer of 1958, this expedition remained in the area for a full 65 days, carrying out numerous ascents of the surrounding peaks.
